Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.

A high-ranking official stated the attack left him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
